George M. Fredrickson, the Edgar E. Robinson Professor of United States History (emeritus) at Stanford University, earned his A.B. (1956) and Ph.D. (1964) from Harvard; he matriculated as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Oslo (1956-7) and was awarded an honorary M.A. from Oxford University in 1988.
